The Department of Mathematics along with RamanuGen: The Mathematics Society organized a series of academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the online as well as offline mode in the academic session 2022-23 for the overall growth and development of the students and faculty members.

Curioso is an annual feature of the Society to indulge students from all disciplines and various colleges in the fun of solving interesting and tricky Mathematics related questions. Curioso’22 was a continuation to the wonderful series of Quiz started in 2021 by RamanuGen-The Mathematics Society of Ramanujan College, University of Delhi to indulge students from all disciplines and various colleges all across India in solving enthralling and crafty Mathematics related questions. The questions were designed in such a way that anyone with an understanding of Senior Secondary Level of Mathematics could attempt the Quiz. The participation came from across the India including IITs and NITs. Each week a new question was posted on our social media handles, which was also shared with the participants through e-mail and they had to submit their answers within the given time duration through the submission link provided. Weekly Top 10 participants were declared at the end of the event. The winners were awarded with certificates, E-Badges and cash prizes. The winners were provided with Certificate of Achievement, E-Badge and the following cash prizes - 1st Position – INR 1500, 2nd Position – INR 1200, 3rd Position – INR 1000.

ESTRATEGIA :THE GAME THEORY BATTLE GROUND (November 10, 2023)- Estrategia, despite being the first one of its kind events of Ramanujan College, saw an active zeal and participation by students from across the University of Delhi. The event was organized by Ramanugen, the Mathematics Society of Ramanujan College and IQAC, Ramanujan College in collaboration with IGTS under Stratezenith. The competition came up with the objective of brushing up the logical and analytical skills of the students and to instil in them, the basic principles of Game Theory, a discipline that lies at the convergence of mathematics and social sciences, often called ‘art of strategy’. Estrategia proved to be a knowledgeable and fun battle. The department sincerely acknowledges the efforts and hard work of all the professors, the IGTS, the IQAC of Ramanujan College, the IGTS and RamanuGen volunteers and the students, without which, the smooth conduct of such a prestigious event was next to impossible.

VEDANGI MAGAZINE LAUNCH (10 January 2023): Vedangi, is the first ever e-magazine from the Department of Mathematics, of Ramanujan College. This magazine has been curated to highlight the growth of the department, both academically and in extra-curricular domains over the years. The Magazine consists of messages from the principal, teacher in charge, introductions about the dept., faculty, some articles, and interviews, and a glance at some events by the mathematical society of Ramanujan College.

International Conference on Graphs, Networks and Combinatorics (ICGNC 10-12 Jan 2023) The Department of Mathematics, Ramanujan College (Accredited Grade “A++” by NAAC), University of Delhi organized an “International Conference on Graphs, Networks and Combinatorics (ICGNC 2023)” during 10-12 January 2023”. The formal inauguration was done on 10 January 2023 in which Prof. Prateek Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, TERI School of Advanced Studies, was invited as the chief guest. Prof. Sharma appreciated the efforts of organizing team and highlighted the importance of this conference emphasized on how such programmes are helpful in the enrichment and enlightenment of faculties and research scholars in bringing collaborative research. Chairman of the College, Dr. Jigar Champaklal Inamdar also graced the occasion and presided over the gathering. He also appreciated the efforts taken by the College and the Department of Mathematics. He emphasized that we should take out most of the conference by seriously attending it and they can contribute their parts in best way by learning from available resources.

The formal valedictory session took place on the final day of the conference. On this day Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, was invited as the Chief Guest. Prof. Pani described the need of such event and congratulated the Department of Mathematics and Ramanujan College for successfully conducting the event with massive participation from around the World. The Principal of Ramanujan College, Prof. S. P. Aggarwal, addressed the participants and focused on the need of interdisciplinary education/research in institutions. He also emphasized that the Mathematics, being the central point of allied area of Mathematics, is much needed for all.

Dr. Rajesh Singh, Convener, ICGNC 2023, presented the overall report and outcome of the event. He informed that the programme has received tremendous response and more than 450 participants attended the conference from India and Abroad. In this event more than 300 research papers were presented and 19 Internationally renowned researchers from around the word participated and shared their expertise on various topics of Graph theory. He also emphasized that the conference has got huge support from various organizations and funded by University Grants Commission (UGC), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Punjab National Bank (PNB). It is worth to note that the University of Delhi, Delhi is a nodal center of G-20 conferences and the conference is being organized under G-20 banner. There are resource persons from the G-20 Countries including US, Indonesia, Germany and India. In this conference 19 Internationally renowned experts form USA, Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia and India will be sharing their expert keynote lectures.

Two-week Refresher Course in Applicable Mathematics was organized by Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) and Department of Mathematics, Ramanujan College in collaboration with Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, JSS Science and Technology University, Mysuru – 570006 during 26 July - 08 August, 2022. The course had 544 registered participants, including teachers and research scholars, out of which 515 participants successfully completed the course. The Refresher Course in Applicable Mathematics successfully achieved its objectives by providing participants with a comprehensive overview of mathematical concepts, promoting research, and fostering a collaborative learning environment. Participants left the course with enhanced mathematical skills and a deeper appreciation for the subject.

Three-Month Foundation Course "Vedic Maths Mastery" was organized by the Teaching Learning Centre and Department of Mathematics, Ramanujan College, University of Delhi during 18th June - 11th September 2022 with the aim of introducing participants to the principles and techniques of Vedic Mathematics, an ancient system of mathematics that is known for its speed and efficiency in calculations. The course had 115 registered participants, including teachers, students, and professionals from various backgrounds, all with a shared interest in Vedic Mathematics.

The two-week Refresher Course in Mathematics was organized by Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) and Department of Mathematics, Ramanujan College during 29 April – 13 May, 2023. The course had 210 registered participants, including teachers and research scholars, out of which 178 participants successfully completed the course. The Refresher Course in Mathematics effectively met its objectives by providing a comprehensive review of mathematical concepts, promoting research, and fostering a collaborative learning environment. The course contributed to the continuous growth and development of mathematics in both academic and professional spheres.

CAREER TALK SESSION - BY RICHA SHARMA (FEB 27, 2023): On 27th Feb 2023, the Placement Cell Mathematical Science in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics organized a Career Talk Session on how to crack interviews by Richa Sharma. She gave 4 factors on which our confidence level depends, i.e. body language, tone of voice, dressing, rate of speech. For building a CV, she advised to highlight skills matching to the job profile, and to review resumes according to job requirements and ended the seminar with advice to keep a positive mindset for the interview without reflecting any desperation or fear.

iota-The Game of imagination : iOTA was a one day extravaganza event organized by RamanuGen- The Mathematics Society of RAMANUJAN COLLEGE with the motto “Mathematics is equal to fun” on 14th Feb 2023.

MATH KI BAAT: Math Ki Baat was a talk delivered by renowned speaker Prof. R.K. Sharma, the former HOD at IIT Delhi. The theme of the talk was “Mathematics for all”. Prof. R. K. Sharma enlightened the students about the magic of Mathematics. He broke the myth that Mathematics is very boring, by making his session very interesting. The students present there were not able to stop smiling because of his humorous examples. Around 100 participants attended the programme.

MATHOPHILIA : Mathophilia was a quiz event which focused on questions ranging from higher Mathematics to Pure Mathematics. The quiz was organized in three rounds:

  1. The first round consisted of 30 questions which were to be done in 30 mins. It was conducted using

Google forms. 70 participants participated in the first round. Among which 50 qualified for round 2.

  1. The round 2 was Integration bee, battle between two randomly selected participants. Both of them had to solve the same question within 5 mins simultaneously. Total 34 students participated and 18 were qualified for the last and the final round.
  2. The final round consisted of thrilling and mind boggling 15 questions which were shown on the screen of the auditorium which the participants had to solve within 3 mins. One needs to mark the answers in a google form. After three mins next question was shown on the same screen. Three participants with the highest score were declared as the winners of Mathophilia.

EQAUCTION : Equaction - The IPL Bidding event was an exciting auction event that provided a platform for students to showcase their cricket knowledge, strategic thinking abilities, and skills in a fun and competitive way. It consisted of three rounds - preliminary, second, and third. The participants had to bid on the players within a specific budget of 35 crores and form the best team possible. While bidding for players, participants were tested on their strategic thinking and decision-making skills, considering factors such as the player's position, strengths, weaknesses, and the specified budget. Each participant could select three batsmen, three bowlers, two all-rounders, one wicketkeeper, and two players of their choice. Players were assigned different points based on their skills and performance in the bidding process. The event was a resounding success, with participants showcasing their exceptional skills and knowledge of the game.

The Society has launched its YouTube channel on 15 August 2021 to contribute its part towards imparting quality education in Mathematics. The main aim of the channel is to make the audience acquainted with the topics of undergraduate level in a simple and effective manner. The channel is fully operated by the students of the department. Currently, the channel has uploaded 82 videos and has 950+ subscribers with 35,000+ views. The Link of the Channel is

The main features of the channel are:

  • Alumni Talks: This segment of the channel has the interviews of the alumni of the department who have excelled in the field. Currently, four interviews have been taken: Tarun Saini (NDA SSB Recommended Candidate | AIR 21), Amrit Kumar (IIT JAM 2020, AIR 221 | BHU PET 2020, AIR 01 | IIT Hyderabad), Keshav Kumar (Operational Research | Machine learning Engineer | Placed in Google) and Anand Raj (SSC CGL CHSL and CPO qualified| Ministry of Labour and Employment)
  • Mathematica Tutorials: This segment of the channel has the videos prepared by the students of the department highlighting the basic commands and syntax for using the Wolfram Cloud.
  • Recording Tutorials: This segment involves the hand-on videos prepared by the students of the department to use the various tools and software for creating the video content.
  • Subject Specific Lectures: This segment includes the videos on the undergraduate topics like Real Analysis and Calculus of B.Sc. (H) Mathematics prepared by the students of the department.
  • Extra-Curricular Programmes: The main highlights of the Orientation Programme, Freshers Party, Alumni Meets and Farewell Party of the department are uploaded in this segment of the channel.

The Fresher’s Party “Aagaz’22” was organized to welcome the newly admitted students of Batch 2022-26 on 24th January 2023. The first-year students as well as their seniors gave scintillating performances in the online mode with great enthusiasm and energy.

The Farewell Party “Adieu’23” for the Batch 2020-23 was organized on 22nd April 2023. The Performance by Laya Taal Society, felicitation of the office bearers 2022-23 by Principal, exciting games and activities, enthralling performances and active participation made the farewell party memorable for all the students of the department.

The students of Batch 2019-22 performed exceptionally well in the Examinations 2022. Megha garg and Shakshi Singh both were top performers and secured 9.919 CGPA. Gaurav and Rimjhim Chakraverty stood second and third with CGPA scores 9.851 and 9.770, respectively.

Scholarships

Three students (Dev Goyal, Achal Singhal and Kartik Patel) of Batch 2021-24 received National Scholarship 2022-23 by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India worth Rs. 10,000 per annum for a duration of three years.
