Department organizes its activities through Sanskriti – The History Society. The Society seeks to connect students with living heritage and open them to discussions on socio-cultural and political changes over a long period of time. The idea is to engender a sense of historicity through activities that are both fun and informative. They also learn to work together as a team in a friendly atmosphere.
Over the years Sanskriti has organized various events including talks, walks, movie screenings, Dastaan Goi, festivals, excursions, quizzes, debates, workshops, cultural programs, field trips etc…
● Walks to Mehrauli, Tughlaqabad, National Museum, Gandhi Smriti etc…
● Talks by Prof. Anil Sethi, Sohail Hashmi etc…
● Screening films like Garam Hawa and The Man Who Knew Infinity
● Excursions to Jhansi-Orchha and Udaipur-Kumbalgarh-Haldighati
Sanskriti conducted its first inter-college Annual Festival in February 2017 titled Riwayat. The theme this year was Sufism and it included events like Debate, Quiz, Sufi singing competition Dastaan Goi and Photography.
Sanskriti has twice staged Dastaan Goi (the medieval art of storytelling). Students from college were trained by the departmental faculty to perform these oral narratives. They have performed two tales in the college – Taqsim-i-Hind (Tale of Partition) & Dastaan-i-Amir Khusrau (Tale of Amir Khusrau). These popular acts were invited to perform at venues outside of the college as well like Zakir Hussain College (E) and Lakshmibai College.
The Department has released its very first newsletter called Guzishta with contributions from both Professors and students on topics of historical importance. The Department also released a T-shirt of the Sanskriti Society.
As part of our outreach effort we invited Manchale, the band of The Kutumb Foundation, an organization that is working for the empowerment of disadvantaged young people. They delivered a scintillating performance which was a blend of folk/sufi/film/original music. They enthralled the audiences with their earthy tunes.
