The English Literary Society of the Department was established in 2008. The department in its endeavour to engage the students with the understanding of art, life and genres organizes various drama events, poetry recitation programs, interactive sessions and lectures under English Literary Society.

Activities

The Departmental Society has organized a number of activities since the past two academic sessions:

• The students of the Department were taken on an Excursion to Mussoorie in February 2016.
• A two day University Grants Commission sponsored National Seminar on Trauma Memory and History in literature was organised on 8th and 9th April 2017. The key note address was delivered by Mr. Abhishek Mazumdar, a well know theatre activist and academic. Twenty four papers were presented by academics from University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, Central University of Punjab and other NCR based institutions. The valedictory address was delivered by Professor Harish Narang, former faculty of JNU.
• Film Screening of Charlie Chaplins Modern Times was organized on 30th August 2016 at Ghalib Auditorium, Ramanujan College.
• Poetry Competition and Fresher welcome were organized on 5th October 2016.
• A Creative Writing Workshop on 15th February 2017 was conducted by Dr. Sami Ahmad Khan.
• A one day Outreach Programme was organised on 30th March 2017. The department visited Chetna Welfare Society, Faridabad, a centre for underprivileged and differently abled children and conducted various activities and competitions like flower making, diya making, painting, mehendi, storytelling and candle making with the children of the society. Our students conducted some English grammar sessions with the young women pursuing professional training courses at the society. The sessions, competitions and activities were followed by the prize distribution ceremony and group dance performance.
• An Illustrated Talk and Discussion on History of Western Art was organized on 31st March 2017.
• A Visit to The National Modern Art Gallery was conducted on 1st April 2017.
• A one-day Educational Tour to Fatehpur Sikri was organised on 4th March 2017.
• A Visit to the National Museum, New Delhi was held on 8th April 2017.
• A Special Illustrated Lecture on W.B. Yeats was arranged on 11th April 2017.
• A Poetry Reading Competition was conducted in 7th September 2017.
• Formal Felicitation of Shri T.C Ghai, retired faculty, Department of English, Ramanujan College on the publication of his book Lal Singh Dil – Selected Poems was arranged on 18th September 2017. The felicitation was followed by a Reading Session of Dil’s poems both in original and translation.
• The Film Screening of Life is Beautiful followed by a Film Analysis Competition was organized on 27thOctober 2017.
