Open House is an initiative of the department to stimulate a positive interaction among students and teachers in a responsive and respectful manner. It aims to facilitate understanding and demonstration of knowledge about individual student’s background, interest, emotional strengths and academic levels. It also provides an interesting platform to students to develop strategies to enhance personal areas of strengths, identify weaknesses and seek opportunities for growth and development. It encourages meaningful interaction among diverse set of students in terms of race, ethnicity, gender and culture.
The Open House initiative usually takes the form of casual-fun meetings to overcome academic boredom among students and faculties. It helps in building a spirit of solidarity and inclusiveness, a sense of togetherness and belongingness among the students.
The meetings are open to discussion on any issue, clarification of queries and confusions, and sharing suggestions, ideas, experiences, and wisdom gained. These meetings are conducted once every semester and as per requirement within the department to boost interactions in the department and foster integrity. The meetings may be conducted online or offline.
Each meeting is based on a broad theme to spark the discussion and taken forward to acknowledge the routine challenges of life and bring easy go and comfortable perspective towards different situations of life.
The meetings are concluded with a collective realization of the responsibilities and seriousness of the issues discussed. In this regard, “Virtual Open House” has been especially relevant in Covid-19 times to gather information about student members, deal with real elements of problems, and establish long-term bonds.
