Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with RamanuGen conducts a range of activities—academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular, both online and offline—to foster the holistic growth and development of students and faculties.

The Department of Mathematics along with RamanuGen: The Mathematics Society organized a series of academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the online as well as offline mode in the academic session 2021-22 for the overall growth and development of the students and faculty members.

Curioso’21 is an annual feature of the Society to indulge students from all disciplines and various colleges in the fun of solving interesting and tricky Mathematics related questions. This was a six-week long (15 May – 22 June 2021) online Mathematics Quiz Competition in which 386 students from 200+ different colleges and 50+ universities actively participated. Each week, a new question was posted on our social media handles, and the participants had to submit their answers within the given time duration through the provided submission link. Weekly Top 3 Participants were declared and the overall winners of the six-week competition were provided certificates and cash prizes at the end of the event.

The Society launched an online one-month awareness program named “VennGen” (15 May – 15 June 2021) on the social media in which the students were provided knowledge about the online certification courses in mathematics by NPTEL from the top institutions of the country.

The department organized an online Alumni Meet “Retrace’21” on 20th June 2021 which was attended by around 130 pass-out students of the department. The main highlight of the event was the distribution of the Privilege Alumni Card to all the alumni of the department which gave them official alumni recognition and Membership Benefits in the future departmental events. The program sailed ahead where the Alumni pent up about their nostalgic memories of college days with sweet emotion and their career progression to the newcomers of the department.

The Society has launched its YouTube channel on 15 August 2021 to contribute its part towards imparting quality education in Mathematics. The main aim of the channel is to make the audience acquainted with the topics of undergraduate level in a simple and effective manner. The channel is fully operated by the students of the department. Currently, the channel has uploaded 82 videos and has 950+ subscribers with 33,000+ views. The main features of the channel are:

  • Alumni Talks: This segment of the channel has the interviews of the alumni of the department who have excelled in the field. Currently, four interviews have been taken: Tarun Saini (NDA SSB Recommended Candidate | AIR 21), Amrit Kumar (IIT JAM 2020, AIR 221 | BHU PET 2020, AIR 01 | IIT Hyderabad), Keshav Kumar (Operational Research | Machine learning Engineer | Placed in Google) and Anand Raj (SSC CGL CHSL and CPO qualified| Ministry of Labour and Employment)
  • Mathematica Tutorials: This segment of the channel has the videos prepared by the students of the department highlighting the basic commands and syntax for using the Wolfram Cloud.
  • Recording Tutorials: This segment involves the hand-on videos prepared by the students of the department to use the various tools and software for creating the video content.
  • Subject Specific Lectures: This segment includes the videos on the undergraduate topics like Real Analysis and Calculus of B.Sc. (H) Mathematics prepared by the students of the department.

Extra-Curricular Programmes: The main highlights of the Orientation Programme, Freshers Party, Alumni Meets and Farewell Party of the department are uploaded in this segment of the channel.

In collaboration with Teaching Learning Centre, Ramanujan College, the department organized a two-week Refresher Course in Mathematics during 31 August – 14 September 2021. Following the four-quadrant approach, the course was offered in a highly flexible format. There were built-in assessment exercises and activities as part of the academic progression in the course along with pre-recorded videos and live lectures. The Programme was discipline specific and provided a forum to 603 participants to keep themselves abreast of the latest advances in various areas of Mathematics with experienced and eminent resource persons from reputed institutions like Dresden University of Technology (Germany), Mangosuthu University of Technology, Durban, South Africa, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Technology (NIT), India Meteorological, Department, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Shiv Nadar University, University of Kashmir, University of Jammu, University of Delhi, Central University of Rajasthan and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

The Society organized an inter-college competition: SCREENMASTER: SHOT Vs SHOT: A Video-Making Competition during 10-24 October 2021. A total of 37 videos were received from all over India on different topics of undergraduate mathematics and these videos were uploaded on the YouTube Channel of the Society. The videos with the highest number of views (Category-1) and the videos shortlisted by the judges (Category-2) were awarded with cash prizes.

In collaboration with TLC Ramanujan College and Department of Mathematics, Deshbandhu College, the department organized two-week Refresher Course in Applicable Mathematics during 15-29 December 2021 with 232 participants.

The Fresher’s Party “Aagaz’21” was organized to welcome the newly admitted students of

Batch 2021-24 on 27th January 2022. The first-year students as well as their seniors gave

scintillating performances in the online mode with great enthusiasm and energy.

The Society organised “Abhyaas: A free test series for the aspirants of IIT JAM Mathematics 2022.” There were 2 full tests conducted in this series. The event received a huge response and students of 2nd and 3rd year participated from all over India. The tests were conducted successfully conducted on 6th and 7th February 2022 with 631 and 466 participants respectively. The question papers, the correct answer keys, graphical analysis of papers and All India Ranking of both the Test Series conducted in Abhyaas were uploaded on the official website of the society: https://sites.google.com/view/ramanugen/

In collaboration with TLC Ramanujan College and PG & Research Department of Mathematics, Jamal Mohamed College (Autonomous), the department organized one-week FDP on “Data Analytics and Mathematical Software Tools” during 25 February-3 March 2022 with 160 participants. The programme acquainted the participants with the knowledge of R, Python, Excel, MATLAB, Mathematica, LaTeX and Webtools.

After the reopening of the college for physical classes, the society organized its first offline event after the covid lockdown on 10th March 2022 titles “Calco-holics: A Mathematical Quiz Competition” comprising of three rounds. The event saw the participation of 40 teams from different colleges of University of Delhi and the teams from Deshbandhu College, Vivekananda College and Dyal Singh College grabbed the top three positions.

The Farewell Party “Adieu’22” for the Batch 2019-22 was organized on 9th April 2022. The Performance by Laya Taal Society, felicitation of the office bearers 2021-22 by Principal, exciting games and activities, enthralling performances and active participation made the farewell party memorable for all the students of the department.

Student Achievements

Academic Results

With a 100% of first divisions and pass percentage, the students of Batch 2018-21 performed exceptionally well in the Open Book Examinations 2021. The average grand CGPA of the batch stood at 8.54 and 34% students achieved a grand CGPA (greater than or equal to 9).

Scholarships

Three students (Dev Goyal, Achal Singhal and Kartik Patel) of Batch 2021-24 received National Scholarship 2021-22 by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India worth Rs. 10,000 per annum for a duration of three years. Vaibhav Sharma of Batch 2021-24 received the YS Scholarship 2021-22 by Your-Space, India’s most popular student housing company.

  • Utsav Kejriwal (Batch 2018-21) cleared the Actuarial Examination CM2: Financial Engineering and Loss Reserving (July 2021) and CB2: Business Economics (December 2021) conducted by Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
  • Akshat Aggarwal (Batch 2019-22) cleared the Actuarial Examination CM1: Actuarial Mathematics and CB2: Business Economics conducted by Institute of Actuaries in India in September 2021
  • Paras Sharma (Batch 2013-16) cleared GATE 2022 with AIR 435
  • Sushil Kumar (Batch 2016-19) cleared SSC CGL exam and appointed as Accountant in CGA under Ministry of Power, Government of India in 2022
  • Deepak Dagar and Tinku Gahlawat (Batch 2016-19) cleared SSC CPO exam and appointed as Sub-inspector in Delhi Police in 2022
  • Suraj Kumar (Batch 2013-16) cleared SSC CGL exam and appointed as Inspector in CGST and Central Excise, Navi Mumbai in December 2021
